About Biomimicry Hub
Biomimicry Hub documents how engineers, designers, and architects solve hard problems by copying strategies that evolution has already tested — and what those solutions became in the real world.
Every entry follows the same structure: the biological mechanism (what the organism actually does), the transferable design principle (the part an engineer can use), and the human application (what was built from it, named wherever a real product or research programme exists).
How the content is made
The site is built from a structured database of documented biological strategies. Each organism page is generated from that database and then edited, so the factual backbone — organism, mechanism, principle, application, real-world products — stays consistent across the whole site.
Where a strategy originates from a catalogued entry, pages link to their source, most often AskNature.org, the biological strategy database maintained by the Biomimicry Institute. Named products and research programmes are attributed to the organisation that produced them.
The diagrams on organism pages are original work, drawn from the database rather than reproduced from published figures.
On accuracy
Biomimicry attracts a lot of loose storytelling — claims that a product was “inspired by nature” when the connection is decorative rather than mechanical. This site tries to stay on the right side of that line: the aim is that each page describes a genuine transfer of a mechanism, with the engineering made explicit, not a metaphor.
If you spot something wrong or overstated, it’s worth telling us — corrections are welcome.
Affiliate disclosure
Biomimicry Hub participates in affiliate programmes, including the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program. This means that when you follow certain links on this site and make a purchase, we may earn a commission — at no additional cost to you.

Affiliate links are used for books and courses genuinely relevant to the topic of the page they appear on. Recommendations are not paid placements, and a commission never determines whether something is included. Pages are written first; the links follow.
